GDMFA 2015

Designer as Journalist

Amanda Buck

For my Graphic Design MFA thesis project at Maryland Institute College of Art, I wrote and designed a 64-page publication, Track, about the state-designated Station North Arts & Entertainment District in central Baltimore.

Track

The publication tracked the culture, stories, and change occurring in Station North at that moment in time. My goal was to create a portrait of the district in 2015—at a pivotal juncture in the Station North story.

Station North

In 2002, the state of Maryland designated an area spanning three neighborhoods in central Baltimore (Barclay, Charles North, and Greenmount West) as the official Station North Arts & Entertainment District.

There are 22 Arts & Entertainment districts across the state. These districts encourage arts-related activity in order to spur economic development in cities.
